PLEASE HELP VOTE

For those of you who are not aware of what's taking place, let me take
a minute to briefly explain.
I am a second year medical school student trying to obtain
scholarships to pay for school. I simply want to diminish the amount
of loan I will have to pay in the end and so I have applied for
various scholarships of which I hope I can obtain. For this
particular scholarship I have entered one of my photos. However, to
win the scholarship, I need to be in first ranking. I am currently
60 out of 23,000 or so people who have entered so far.
It seems like the closer I get to the number one slot, the harder it
is to keep my current spot. I need your help to
achieve my goal in obtaining the number one slot to obtain the
scholarship of $1800. Currently the number 1 slot has over 3,000
votes and I currently have 482, so I still have a long way to go.

I know many, if not all of you, are extremely busy, but this voting
will simply take a minute max. Simply follow the link below and
select the green check mark to vote. If you are able, you can vote
every day for the next 24 days. Though, I'm sure the last couple of
days it will be a fierce battle with others that will want that number
one slot.

Thank you so much for you time and vote.

lugar.

Gracias por su tiempo y voto.

Feliz año Nuevo :)

Fun video to spice up your health

When it comes to nutrition it seems like we often get contradicting bits of information. Whether high fructose corn syrup is good for you, whether we should eat butter or margarine, if eating high amounts of saturated fats (like palmitate found in meats) will really cause coronary heart disease, etc? Why it is that diabetes, cancer, heart disease, etc. are on the rise? By taking biochemistry, and many other courses at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine I have found that is it essential to understand exactly how the body reacts to all that we are exposed to and what diseases can be predicted if we choose to live a certain way. The answers to the questions above and how to reverse most of the current conditions that plague many, lie on our genetic blueprint. Not so much that if we are diagnosed with "Idiopathic diseases," or if doctors diagnose a disease to be genetically related we should give in and accept that there is nothing else that can be done to restore health. Rather, we were created to digest naturally grown foods and not artificial, synthetic, antibiotic, preservative, chemically infested foods. Not to mention, we are exposed to so many toxins that our immune system is becoming weaker and weaker as we speak, it is no wonder individuals become ill with viruses and bacteria that in the past had no effect. I don't believe that the viruses and bacteria are getting stronger, because at least for viruses, they have point mutations monthly, and mutate completely year to year, to the point that they are no longer the same virus they were the year before. I believe the reason we are becoming prey to many illnesses is that we are not living in harmony with what our body requires to live optimally, therefore, participating in lifestyle, diet, increased stress, etc. which interfere with the bodies ability to fight infection the way the body was built to do so.

I feel I am learning so much. I wish this information was taught at every school, because I feel it should be the right of every individual to know how the body functions and how various stimuli affect its ability to function. Only after people are told the truth they should be left to make decisions rather than let the media guide decisions for us and then we find years down the road that what we thought was good for us results in decreased health. I know I am not including a lot of details, but if you would like to know more please feel free to write comments.

Below you will find a fun video clip that summarizes my opinion. Though becoming aware is the first step to improving the health state.

Dad, Karl and Rodolfo's visit

Last weekend we had the privilege of having my Dad, Karl and Rodolfo over. They decided to stop on their way to Iowa. It was a very draining drive for them, all crammed together in David's Mazda sports car. It was quite the site, but they managed well, arriving at 3:45 in the morning. A few hours later, we embarked to Iowa, where we wanted to see Grandpa, who is experiencing some health problems. We had a great time, seeing everyone. It had been few years since my Dad had seen Grandma, Grandpa and Sherry. We were so happy we were able to go. These pictures and those that follow are during our trip, including stops at Independece, Liberty, Ft. Madison and Navoo.

Bridal Cave

While on our trip to Osage Beach, we decided to visit Bridal Cave. I guess it got it's name because there have been many weddings that have taken place inside the cave. Many of the passage ways are very narrow, so you do have to be careful, but if you don't mind bending over, squeezing tight, and having a hunch back for a while you should be fine :) As you can see the cave is very beautiful. The formations are made through Carbonic Acid, which is what's in soda's. It takes years for formations to grow. It's recommended that no one touch the formations, since the grease on fingers will damage and turn the formations a grayish color. Anyway, it was great. If you ever have a chance to see a cave, I'd highly recommend it.

Happy Father's Day

I would like to dedicate this song by Jim Croce to my Dad, the greatest Dad in the world. I can remember when I was young my Dad would listen to Jim Croce all the time. He would particularly sing "Time in a Bottle," to my Mom. My Dad sings very well, and everytime us kids heard this song we always thought it was my Dad singing it. It wasn't until I was older that I realized it was another singer. To the greatest Dad in the world, my Father, Happy Father's Day. :)

'Epigenetics' Means What We Eat, How We Live And Love, Alters How Our Genes Behave

'Epigenetics' Means What We Eat, How We Live And Love, Alters How Our Genes Behave

Shared via AddThis

This is a very interesting article. I have been investigating something to share with my co-workers, because I am part of a Journal Club where different Scientists and Associate Scientists share research related articles that apply to the line of work our company specializes in, being Immunology. For those of you who know me, you can attest that I can't say enough about nutrition, but here's an article that states how nutrition, our environment and early childhood behaviors alter how our genes express themselves. This made me think twice about how critical nutrition is during a fetus's life and how the upbringing in utero affects the rest of that childs life.
