When it comes to nutrition it seems like we often get contradicting bits of information. Whether high fructose corn syrup is good for you, whether we should eat butter or margarine, if eating high amounts of saturated fats (like palmitate found in meats) will really cause coronary heart disease, etc? Why it is that diabetes, cancer, heart disease, etc. are on the rise? By taking biochemistry, and many other courses at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine I have found that is it essential to understand exactly how the body reacts to all that we are exposed to and what diseases can be predicted if we choose to live a certain way. The answers to the questions above and how to reverse most of the current conditions that plague many, lie on our genetic blueprint. Not so much that if we are diagnosed with "Idiopathic diseases," or if doctors diagnose a disease to be genetically related we should give in and accept that there is nothing else that can be done to restore health. Rather, we were created to digest naturally grown foods and not artificial, synthetic, antibiotic, preservative, chemically infested foods. Not to mention, we are exposed to so many toxins that our immune system is becoming weaker and weaker as we speak, it is no wonder individuals become ill with viruses and bacteria that in the past had no effect. I don't believe that the viruses and bacteria are getting stronger, because at least for viruses, they have point mutations monthly, and mutate completely year to year, to the point that they are no longer the same virus they were the year before. I believe the reason we are becoming prey to many illnesses is that we are not living in harmony with what our body requires to live optimally, therefore, participating in lifestyle, diet, increased stress, etc. which interfere with the bodies ability to fight infection the way the body was built to do so.
I feel I am learning so much. I wish this information was taught at every school, because I feel it should be the right of every individual to know how the body functions and how various stimuli affect its ability to function. Only after people are told the truth they should be left to make decisions rather than let the media guide decisions for us and then we find years down the road that what we thought was good for us results in decreased health. I know I am not including a lot of details, but if you would like to know more please feel free to write comments.
Below you will find a fun video clip that summarizes my opinion. Though becoming aware is the first step to improving the health state.
